Tango, Tango, Tango!
He tomado clases de baile por 12 años, pero nunca he hecho salón de baile verdadero. Estando en Argentina, decidí tomar clases de tango. Le dije a mi madre anfitriona sobre mi deseo de aprender bailar tango y ella me trajo al centro cultural de la ciudad. Hay un tablón de anuncios con publicidad para tango, flamenco, árabe y danza moderna!
El tango es una danza que tiene influencias de diversas formas de cultura europea y africana. El baile se originó en los distritos de clase baja de Buenos y más tarde en Montevideo. La palabra "tango" parece haber sido utilizada por primera vez en relación con la danza en la década de 1890. Inicialmente era sólo uno de los muchos bailes, pero pronto se hizo popular en toda la sociedad, ya que los teatros y los órganos de barriles de la calle lo extendieron de los suburbios a los barrios pobres de la clase trabajadora, llenos de cientos de miles de inmigrantes europeos, Españoles y franceses de origen.
Un hecho interesante sobre el tango es que tiene su propio idioma llamado Lunfardo. Los cantantes de tango a menudo lo utilizan en canciones y presenta palabras mezcladas entre italiano y español. A veces, incluso dicen una palabra backwords!
Las clases fueron geniales y yo comencé a sentir confianza al final de la cuarta clase!

I have taken dance lessons for 12 years now, but I have never done true ballroom. Being in Argentina, I decided to go take tango lessons. I told my host mom about my wish to learn tango dancing and she brought me to the city's cultural center. There is a bulletin board there with advertisement for tango, flamenco, arabic, and modern dance!
Tango is a dance that has influences from various forms of European and African culture. The dance originated in lower-class districts of Buenos and later Montevideo. The word “tango” seems to have first been used in connection with the dance in the 1890s. Initially it was just one of the many dances, but it soon became popular throughout society, as theatres and street barrel organs spread it from the suburbs to the working-class slums, which were packed with hundreds of thousands of European immigrants, primarily Italians, Spaniards, and French in origin.
An interesting fact about tango is that it has its own language called Lunfardo. The tango singers often use it in songs and it features words mixed between italian and spanish. Sometimes, they even say a word backwords!
The classes were great and I began to feel confident by the end of the fourth class!
